    RICHMOND, Ind. - Don J. Hays, age 91, of Richmond, died Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Reid Hospital. Born January 17, 1924, in Corning, Arkansas, to John and Hattie Denton Hays, Don came to Richmond in 1952. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Don retired as a line worker from Richmond Power & Light and later retired from First Bank Richmond where he was the Maintenance Manager. He had been a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Don enjoyed bowling, playing golf, and carpentry which included building bird houses. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Eva McNew Daugherty Hays, to whom he was married on July 12, 1983; stepdaughter, Denise Daugherty-Cooke of Richmond; step-granddaughters, Jessica Ranee Cooke (Travis Hitch) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Julia Desiree Cooke (JT McNees) of Indianapolis, Indiana; step-great-grandchildren, Deacon, Griffin, Grant, and Maxwell; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Jess Hays, Bill Hays, Charlie Hays, Clarence Hays, Vess Hays, and Alsie Denton. Visitation for Don J. Hays will be from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Karkoski officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to: Alzheimer's Association, 50 East 91st Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana 46209-4830. Condolences may be sent to the family via the guest book at www.doanmillsfuneralhome.com.
