    Richmond, Ind. - Linda S. Porter, age 67, of Richmond, went home to the Lord on Thursday morning (March 26, 2015) at Reid Hospital. She was born in New Castle, Indiana on May 25, 1947 to Donald and Eloise Adkins Staley. She was raised in Randolph County, Indiana and was a 1969 graduate of Ball State University and taught high school before entering the real estate business in 1977. She was involved in real estate sales and property management and was a licensed real estate broker. She was a graduate of the Realtor Institute (GRI). From 1984-1988 Linda owned and operated her own real estate office in Hagerstown. During that same time period, she was vice president of the local Chamber of Commerce. In 1987 she was named the "Outstanding Working Woman" by the Business and Professional Women's Association. In January 1989 she was named supervisor of properties for MP Realty Group where she concentrated her efforts on apartment management. She was a graduate of Quality Management School and in 1991 received the National Apartment Association's designation of Certified Apartment Property Supervisor (CAPS). Linda's responsibilities with MP Realty Group/First Richmond Corporation included overseeing all on-site employees and operations of the company's 20 apartment communities in Indiana and Ohio. In 1992 she became an instructor designate for the Indiana Apartment Association. From 1995 to 2006 she was the general manager of the Richmond Holiday Inn where she developed the property into one of the top performing units in the hotel industry and where she was loved and respected by all who worked for her. Survivors include her husband, Scott Porter; daughters Holly Forrest of Richmond and Rebecca (Ryan) Cate of Richmond; sisters Mary (Jerry) Gordon of Wiggins, MS and Betty (George) Clark of Granite Bay, CA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Steve and Sally Porter of Richmond; grandson Ryder Cate; nieces Kim Gordon and Tracy (Scott) Talley and special cousins Larry( Kathy) and Jim (Sue) Ronk and Nancy Bellomy. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted in her honor at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday (March 29, 2015) in First Baptist Church (1601 South "A" Street). Rev. Jim Spon will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Reid Foundation for Cancer Care (1100 Reid Parkway, Richmond, IN 47374) or to First Baptist Church (1601 South "A" Street, Richmond, IN 47374).
