    The rate increase of Bradley County's hotel/motel tax for this year has been killed by the reluctance of a state senator to carry the proposal forward after changes to the bill were made in the Tennessee House of Representatives. State Sen. Mike Bell, R-Riceville representing the 9th Senatorial District, in a correspondence to Bradley County Commissioner Thomas Crye, said he would not proceed with the bill for the current legislative session.

    Legislation was filed today in Nashville seeking to establish a Tennessee Standards Commission that would recommend to the State Board of Education for adoption all standards to be used in the state's K-12 public schools. If approved, the legislation would cancel Tennessee's current memorandum of understanding concerning the Common Core State Standards entered into with the National Governor's Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers for English Language Arts and Math, according to an announcement issued today by state Sen. Mike Bell, R-Riceville, who is co-sponsoring the proposal.
