    At a third reading of legislation, Pickerington City Council voted unanimously to approve an annexation agreement for the Smith/Sanders properties Feb. 17, which means 36 acres of land located to the southeast of the Refugee and Pickerington roads intersection in Violet Township will annex into the city of Pickerington. With an assist from the Ricketts family, which provided three acres of land to allow for the necessary contiguity and which also helped negotiate a deal between the property owners, Violet Township and the city, the table now is set for future development on the eastern corridor of the city.

    Recent Pickerington Division of Police reports range from an officer bitten by a dog running at large to numerous thefts from residences, vehicles and businesses While on patrol at 1:49 p.m. Feb. 6 an officer reported seeing a dog believed to be a boxer running loose in the 100 block of Monebrake. The officer attempted to catch the dog and then while talking to the animal's owner, the dog bit the officer on his calf.

    A spate of brutally cold weather through January and February means the Pickerington Local School District will makeup missed class time in May. As of Tuesday, the district had canceled classes because of winter weather nine days . Although the district already made up one day of class Feb. 16, last week's closings mean students also will make up classes May 26, 27 and 28. Last week, Pickerington's Public Relations Director David Ball said officials hadn't decided if even more makeup dates should be provided for the 2014-15 school year.
