    PERU, Ind. (AP) -- Six top police officers with a north-central Indiana department have resigned their ranks and returned to patrol duties following a dispute with the city's police chief. Peru's Board of Works approved the officers' request Thursday to give up their ranks and be reassigned to patrol status. The board then approved moving six current patrolmen to fill the vacant ranked positions. Peru Police Chief Jonie Kennedy tells the Kokomo Tribune (http://bit.ly/1n5OiBk ) the officers "had a difference of opinion on the way I was running things." City attorney Bill Berkshire says he doesn't have the details on why the officers requested to retire their rank. Berkshire, who also sits on the Board of Works, says he's never personally had a problem working with Kennedy or her assistant chief.
