The Board made no actual decision on what it will do to Jimmy Daniell Road, with construction of center turn and deceleration lanes one possibility and construction of four lanes, a new bridge over McNutt Creek and reconfiguration to meet with the roadway in Athens-Clarke County another.

The agenda item is a response to a letter sent to BOC Chairman Melvin Davis on Oct. 28 asking for county action on a project framework agreement for the widening of Jimmy Daniell Road by Dec. 1, according to documents released Friday on the county web site.

    An eagle monument titled "Freedom" will be unveiled at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oconee Veterans Park, 3500 Hog Mountain Road, during the annual Veterans Day ceremony. The bronze eagle, made by sculptor Mike Curtis of Idaho, was funded by numerous donations from organizations and individuals, and will be placed over a marker for 39 Oconee County citizens killed in action during wartime, beginning with World War I. The ceremony will be hosted by the Oconee Veterans Memorial Foundation Inc., which is also raising money for a Wall of Honor and a Killed in Action memorial.

    A scattering of bones found in an old family cemetery near Bogart in October turned out to be deer bones, Oconee County Coroner Ed Carson said Monday. The bones, unearthed by a tractor moving a tree that fell in the cemetery, were taken to the State Crime Lab in Decatur, where forensic experts made the identification, he said.
