    More than 2.3 million people worldwide, including nearly 2,500 in Mississippi, are afflicted with multiple sclerosis -- an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system which interrupts the flow of information within the brain and between the brain and body. Saturday, more than 300 people are expected on Ocean Springs Front Beach to take place in the annual Walk MS -- an event sponsored by the Mississippi/Alabama chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society which raises money for MS research.

    Ocean Springs Upper Elementary was placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon after a woman advised school officials her boyfriend was in the parking lot becoming violent and had a weapon. According to Ocean Springs superintendent Bonita Coleman-Potter, the woman, later identified as 35-year-old Charika Barrow of St. Martin, entered the school about 1:25 p.m. Tuesday and told officials that the man, later identified as Octavius Kirkland, 33, was in a vehicle in the school parking lot with a weapon and had become violent after the two engaged in a domestic dispute.
