    A teenage vocalist from Fairfield and her guitarist friend have written and recorded a song inspired by efforts to prevent gun violence after the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. Singer Amber Schaper and guitarist Jason Bangser are selling downloads of "Counting on You" for $1.39 each and have pledged all proceeds to a Newtown nonprofit that aims to prevent the causes of gun violence, according to a news release announcing the song.

DeLauro defeated James Brown, a political newcomer, two-time Connecticut Post track coach of the year and former Bunnell High School math teacher The closest race DeLauro ever had was her first in 1990, when she barely defeated former Milford state Sen. Thomas Scott by a 52 percent to 48 percent margin.

    Students of the Sandy Hook Elementary School were evacuated Wednesday morning after a male caller phoned the school's office and said there was a bomb in the building. The approximately 500 students, still traumatized by the Dec. 14, 2012 shooting of 20 first-graders and six educators, were evacuated and bused to another school.
