    Alcohol may have caused a Newport News man to stumble into oncoming traffic along Jefferson Avenue where he was struck by a vehicle, according to police. Police and medical emergency crews were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the south Newport News section near Jefferson Avenue and Ellen Drive to a report of an auto/pedestrian traffic crash, said Lou Thurston, Newport News Police spokesman, in a news release.
