    Gary Weinreich, a resident of Murrells Inlet who has led efforts to discontinue weekly fireworks over the Inlet, said the petition calls for fireworks to only be allowed on Independence Day, if there is an effective cleanup plan in place. 'Debris that goes into the Inlet from weekly fireworks is a terrible example when we are trying to teach everyone to do everything they can to preserve the integrity of the resource,' Weinreich said, adding that at the same time we are turning our heads to debris and chemicals in the water after fireworks shows.
