    Massachusetts resident Christopher Swain passed through Canajoharie on a couple-day stop on his unique tour of the Mohawk River, which, despite the near-freezing temperatures of early December, he had swam the length of starting at the river's head almost 90 miles away. The 149-mile river starts where the east and west branch of the Mohawk meet "in the wilderness" of Lewis County, Swain explained, noting that he swam both branches, one three-mile stretch of the undeveloped east branch taking almost four days to conquer.
