    The Marysville Board of Education voted unanimously Thursday, May 21, to approve a three-year contract for Karen Wells to serve as principal of Northwood Elementary School, effective Aug. 1. Wells was formerly assistant principal of Creekview Intermediate School. She was brought on as interim principal of Northwood earlier this month after Principal Melissa Hackett was placed on paid administrative leave.

As a run-up to this weekend's Marysville Rodeo, more than 100 longhorn steers, cowboys on horseback and Old West wagons be traveling on state and local roadways in Yuba City and Marysville between 6-7 p.m. The Twin Cities Cattle Drive will start at the Larry Geweke Ford auto dealership in Yuba City and travel on local streets before coming to Bridge Street.

The annual Union County law enforcement memorial ceremony will recognize those who lost their lives in the line of duty at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, on the north lawn of the Union County Courthouse and Justice Center, 221 W. Fifth St. Between 140 and 160 officers are killed in the line of duty every year, according to the organization Concerns of Police Survivors.
