According to information from the Fort Drum Regional Liaison Organization, “the Army is planning to reduce its force by 70,000 soldiers.” “The proposal could cut Fort Drum by up to 16,000 positions, more than 80 percent of the 19,000 soldiers at Fort Drum now,” said Tina M.     State Police in Lowville are investigating a fatal snowmobile accident that occurred March 4, at approximately 5:50pm along the North Road Trail in the Town of West Turin, Lewis County. The investigation revealed, Christopher Hawkes, 23, from Camden, NY was the operator of a snowmobile, traveling south on North Road when he struck a slight hill causing him to eject over the handle bars in front of the snowmobile.

Hawkes, 23, crashed after his 2015 Arctic Cat ZR 600 RR snowmobile struck a slight hill, ejecting him over the handlebars in front of the snowmobile.

Farr was negligent in hitting his vehicle Dec. 13, 2013, on Lyons Falls Road, while the town department failed to have a wing man riding with him. Mr. Clark is seeking an unspecified amount of money for physical and emotional injuries, medical costs, loss of wages and earning opportunities, pain and suffering, his wife's loss of consortium and “other consequential damages” in the legal action.

    A Lowville man accused of heroin possession was sentenced Friday in Lewis County Court to undergo a drug rehabilitation program as an alternative to state prison time. Oscar J. Medina, 22, of 5965 Waters Road, was sentenced to three years in state prison but was mandated for the state prison system's 90-day Willard Drug Rehabilitation Program, which allows inmates who successfully complete it to serve the remainder of their prison sentences under parole supervision.
