    Liberty Indiana, Raymond Meeks (wife, Sheila) of Punta Gorda, Florida and Cheryl Beatty (husband, Tim) of Hagerstown. Charlene was talented in music, singing and a lover of live theatre and the arts. She was an avid stock car race fan and followed the Bicknell Race Team, Baystone Construction Racing Team and ASA Racing, as well as NASCAR. She and her husband were the developer's owner-operators of Prairie Creek Campground (now Mt. Pleasant Campground) which they ran for sixteen years. Charlene and Bob were avid travelers. After extensively traveling the United States, they chose Siesta Key, Florida as their spot for vacation home. Charlene was active in Republican politics and volunteered for Congressman David McIntosh. Her first campaign involvement was on behalf of Congressman David W. Dennis of Richmond, Indiana. Charlene was a member of Pleasant Hill United Brethren Church and in later years attended Harris Chapel Church of the Nazarene. Special appreciation goes to Sharon Hofherr, LPN, retired from Golden Living Nursing Care facility for her outstanding professionalism and dedicated care. Private graveside services will be held Tuesday at Willow Grove Cemetery in Fountain City, Indiana, by Pastor Jim Ballenger of Harris Chapel. The family requests no flowers in favor of memorials to Pleasant Hill United Brethren, 11531 South. U.S. Hwy. 35, Muncie, Indiana 47302 or Harris Chapel Church of the Nazarene, 10450 South CR 544 East, Selma, Indiana 47383. Parson Mortuary in Muncie is in charge of arrangements.     LIBERTY, Ind. - George R. Dragoo, Liberty IN passed away on January 10, 2015. George was born June 14, 1927 in Ripley, Ohio to the late William and Mabel Dragoo. George was the youngest of 6 children. The family moved to the Liberty area from the family farm when George was a young boy. George delayed graduating from Short High school until his volunteer service in the United States Navy was finished. He was stationed and served in the Philippines near the end of WWII. After graduating High School he married the late Marilyn Maxwell and the two raised three children; Charles (Deborah) Dragoo, Barbara (Ted) Montgomery and Nancy (Gene) Giffen. George truly enjoyed his family and never missed an opportunity to help any of them better themselves. His co-workers at the Elder Beerman Store in Richmond, close friends and family all appreciated George's sense of humor and clever sayings. After becoming a widower in 2010 George learned to cook and discovered he liked it. He perfected his deviled eggs and pineapple upside down cake and was willing to bring them to any event! George had a wonderful life and leaves behind his three children and their spouses, several grandchildren, great grandchildren; sister-in-law Stephanie Sappingfield and special brother-in-law James Maxwell (wife Margaret). There will be a celebration of life gathering at the convenience of the family. George has graciously donated his body to the Indiana University School of Medicine. Donations may be given to the Liberty Presbyterian Church.

    LIBERTY, Ind. - Ruth Mervin, age 81, of Liberty, died Monday, January 5, 2015, at Reid Hospital. Born December 31, 1933, in Eldorado, Ohio, to Ralph and Mary Petry, she was a lifelong resident of this area. Ruth worked for Nettle Creek Industries. She was a member of Church of the Brethren. Survivors include her children, Carl (Rayetta) Mervin of Liberty, Indiana, Karen Mervin of Texas, Roberta Mervin of Texas, and Richard Mervin Jr. of Texas; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Marianna Hunt of Largo, Florida; brothers, Paul Petry of Eaton, Ohio, and Gene Petry of Conover, Ohio; nieces; nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Delores Gosnell and June Engleheart; and brother, Melvin Petry. There will be no public visitation or funeral service. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Condolences may be sent to the family via the guest book at www.doanmillsfuneralhome.com.

    Liberty, Ind. - Betsy L. McGowan, 68, of Liberty, died on Saturday, December 27, 2014 and Reid Hospital in Richmond. Betsy was born in Milan, Indiana, on Saturday, August 17, 1946, to Herman E. and Helena Clara Bockhorst Jobe. She graduated in the 1965 class of Connersville High School. Betsy married Arlus "Mac" McGowan on Saturday, August 20, 1988. Betsy worked at housecleaning and together with her husband owned and operated McGowan Trucking. She was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church in Connersville. Betsy enjoyed working in her flowers, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Betsy is survived by three sons: Bruce Reece of Jacksonburg, Ohio, Clyde Reece and wife Dawn Renee of Richmond, and Marty Ridge and wife Kim of New Paris; two daughters: Ruth Ann McNally of Liberty, and Debora Sue Phillips and husband Mike of Richmond; a sister: Linda Lundy and husband Bob of Connersville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Betsy was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Rhonda Sue Marcum. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, in Liberty, with Pastor Norman Dew of Peace Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in West Point Cemetery in Liberty. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. Friday until the time of the service.
