    LIBERTY, Ind. - George R. Dragoo, Liberty IN passed away on January 10, 2015. George was born June 14, 1927 in Ripley, Ohio to the late William and Mabel Dragoo. George was the youngest of 6 children. The family moved to the Liberty area from the family farm when George was a young boy. George delayed graduating from Short High school until his volunteer service in the United States Navy was finished. He was stationed and served in the Philippines near the end of WWII. After graduating High School he married the late Marilyn Maxwell and the two raised three children; Charles (Deborah) Dragoo, Barbara (Ted) Montgomery and Nancy (Gene) Giffen. George truly enjoyed his family and never missed an opportunity to help any of them better themselves. His co-workers at the Elder Beerman Store in Richmond, close friends and family all appreciated George's sense of humor and clever sayings. After becoming a widower in 2010 George learned to cook and discovered he liked it. He perfected his deviled eggs and pineapple upside down cake and was willing to bring them to any event! George had a wonderful life and leaves behind his three children and their spouses, several grandchildren, great grandchildren; sister-in-law Stephanie Sappingfield and special brother-in-law James Maxwell (wife Margaret). There will be a celebration of life gathering at the convenience of the family. George has graciously donated his body to the Indiana University School of Medicine. Donations may be given to the Liberty Presbyterian Church.

    LIBERTY, Ind. - Ruth Mervin, age 81, of Liberty, died Monday, January 5, 2015, at Reid Hospital. Born December 31, 1933, in Eldorado, Ohio, to Ralph and Mary Petry, she was a lifelong resident of this area. Ruth worked for Nettle Creek Industries. She was a member of Church of the Brethren. Survivors include her children, Carl (Rayetta) Mervin of Liberty, Indiana, Karen Mervin of Texas, Roberta Mervin of Texas, and Richard Mervin Jr. of Texas; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Marianna Hunt of Largo, Florida; brothers, Paul Petry of Eaton, Ohio, and Gene Petry of Conover, Ohio; nieces; nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Delores Gosnell and June Engleheart; and brother, Melvin Petry. There will be no public visitation or funeral service. Betsy was born in Milan, Indiana, on Saturday, August 17, 1946, to Herman E. and Helena Clara Bockhorst Jobe. She graduated in the 1965 class of Connersville High School. Betsy married Arlus "Mac" McGowan on Saturday, August 20, 1988. Betsy worked at housecleaning and together with her husband owned and operated McGowan Trucking. She was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church in Connersville. Betsy enjoyed working in her flowers, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Betsy is survived by three sons: Bruce Reece of Jacksonburg, Ohio, Clyde Reece and wife Dawn Renee of Richmond, and Marty Ridge and wife Kim of New Paris; two daughters: Ruth Ann McNally of Liberty, and Debora Sue Phillips and husband Mike of Richmond; a sister: Linda Lundy and husband Bob of Connersville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Betsy was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Rhonda Sue Marcum. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, in Liberty, with Pastor Norman Dew of Peace Lutheran Church officiating.     Liberty, Ind. - Myrtie Jane Bothast, 67, of Liberty, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at Reid Hospital in Richmond. Jane was born in Richmond on Sunday, February 23, 1947, to Robert and Lavon Russell Eckler. She graduated from Short High School in Liberty in the class of 1965. On June 12, 1965, Jane married Boyd Dean Bothast at the Liberty Church of Christ. Jane was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, and cooking. In addition to her husband of forty-nine years, Jane is survived by a daughter: Dawn Hyde and husband Craig of Oxford; a son: Russell Bothast and wife Carmen of Liberty; a brother: John Eckler and wife Barb of Lakewood, Colorado; four grandchildren: Tyler Bothast, Cody Bothast, Holly LeMaster, and Miranda Hyde; one great-grandson, Owen LeMaster; an adopted granddaughter, Ashley Curry; and several nieces and nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jimmy Eckler. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 15th, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, in Liberty, with Rev. Harold Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery in Connersville.
