    The LAC 8u Force girls travel softball team picked up right where they left off since winning the 8u Babe Ruth Metro N.Y. championship this past summer, by winning the first ever LAC The girls did so by winning their third and final game 10 to 8 against a tough 10u Central Nassau team. The girls played exceptional defense and had some timely hitting to pull ahead early and held on for the win and for the tournament.

    Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island , a 501 3 nonprofit organization in Levittown that provides children facing adversity with one-to-one mentoring services, recently announced it has received a grant for $25,000 as part of the "Innovation Generation Grant" program from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions, Inc. The grant will support the BBBSLI Workplace Mentoring Program at the Motorola offices in Holtsville, which provides weekly, after-school mentoring to middle school students from the Sachem School District. Students will be transported to the Motorola offices, where they will be "matched" with volunteers.

The membership of the department as well as department employees and dispatchers all were instructed in the new guidelines in a special meeting held Monday, Oct. 27.
