    One woman has died as a result of the two-vehicle crash which briefly shut down Owensboro Road early Tuesday afternoon. According to Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins, 93-year-old Elsie K. Burnette, of Leitchfield, was pronounced dead at U of L Hospital at 2:58 p.m. on Tuesday after being airlifted there from Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center following the collision.

During the Tourism Commission's regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, March 24, Leitchfield Tourism Director Ilsa Johnson presented the request from the summer recreation programs, which consist of girls softball, little league, Babe Ruth, and the old public swimming pool.

The Leitchfield Fire Department responded to the local grocery store, located at 612 South English St., at around 2:22 p.m. on Monday. After returning from executive session, Utilities Chairman Robert Crawford said the Commission had discussed the responsibilities of the four utilities department heads and passed a motion to change their employment status from non-exempt to exempt, meaning they would become salary personnel.

    At 4:19 p.m. on Wednesday, the Leitchfield Fire Department responded to the trailer fire at 4638 Brandenburg Rd. According to LFD First Assistant Chief Tim Duvall, when firefighters arrived on the scene, flames were burning throughout one side of the trailer. To combat the blaze, firefighters entered the trailer through the front and worked their way toward the side of the building, knocking down the flames as they went, Duvall said.

    The City of Leitchfield officially created two new paid officer positions in the Leitchfield Fire Department , as well as discussed increasing pay for firefighter training on Monday, March 16. During the Leitchfield City Council's regularly scheduled Monday, March 16 meeting, Leitchfield Fire Chief Jerry Schlosser addressed the City Council regarding establishing the positions of a Pre-Planning officer and a Record-Keeping officer for the LFD. The Pre-Planning officer examines new buildings constructed within the LFD's district for floor plans, fire hazards, contents, and other information of which the LFD needs to be aware.

    According to Vendors' Village Representative Tom Jeffrey, Kroger has, for the past year, been looking into opening a grocery store in the Leitchfield Vendors' Village location at 1325 Elizabethtown Rd. The Leitchfield Vendors' Village - the first of four Vendors' Village stores established - had extra space to fill, so Kroger was invited to share half of the building, which recently received a new roof, said Jeffrey. However, it was recently determined that in order to fund the preparation of Vendors' Village for Kroger, the owner of the building would need "hundreds of thousands" of dollars, Jeffrey said.
