    A civil rights group has succeeded in getting a sign that displayed biblical scripture removed from Hager Park in Jenison, Advance Newspapers reported . The sign, erected in the 1960s by the Ottawa County Road Commission, displayed a verse from the Bible, Psalm 19:1, "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork."

    It took Montcalm County authorities six days before disclosing the name of a 68-year-old Jenison woman who died in a two-vehicle crash north of Howard City last Wednesday. Carol Sloma apparently drove through a stop sign on West Almy Road at Federal Road when her car was broadsided by a pickup going at full speed along the former US-31 route.

Sheriff's deputies responded when the woman's westbound car on West Almy Road apparently drove through a stop sign at Federal Road, the old US-131 route, just north of Howard City.
