He was 84. Williams was born in Hoxie, Arkansas, before coming to the University of Arkansas where he earned a masters degree in Zoology.

    City employees who worked to assist Union Pacific Railroad employees in the aftermath of a train wreck near Hoxie on Aug. 17 will soon be reimbursed for their efforts. The city received $12,775 from the railroad for hours worked by 20 city employees who were not on duty for the city during the aftermath of the accident.

    The Lawrence County Angel Tree will be set up in the lobby of the Lawrence County Courthouse for second-graders from Walnut Ridge and Hoxie to decorate at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2. Names can be taken from the tree from Dec. 3-12, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and all gifts must be returned by Dec. 15. The gifts will be distributed on Dec. 18. The courthouse will be open for people to view the tree and select angels on Tuesday night, Dec. 2, before and after the Walnut Ridge Christmas parade. County Clerk Tina Stowers, a member of the Angel Tree Committee, said in addition to taking angels from the tree there are other ways individuals can support the project.
