A Hemet man accused of fatally stabbing his stepfather and half brother was charged Tuesday with two counts of first-degree murder. Quilik Lamont Walton, 23, was arrested Thursday for the deaths of 44- year-old Deon Boyd and 12-year-old Deon Boyd Jr. Along with the murder charges, Walton faces a special circumstance allegation of taking multiple lives in the same crime -- an allegation for which prosecutors could seek the death sentence. A 61-year-old woman attacked by a pit bull in Hemet has been hospitalized, a county animal services spokesman said. A convicted felon accused of killing his wife and 5- year-old daughter, as well as raping and stabbing his ex-girlfriend, must stand trial for murder and other charges, a judge ruled Friday. Johnny Lopez, 34, of Hemet, was arrested last Nov. 9 after alleged attacks at two different locations in the unincorporated east end of the city. Comment?
The driver of a speeding SUV was killed and his five passengers were injured when the vehicle rear-ended a big rig on Interstate 10 near Whitewater Friday, a California Highway Patrol officer said. The crash was reported about 2:05 a.m. on westbound I-10 west of State Route 62. A BMW X5 driven by a 24-year-old Cathedral City man and carrying five passengers was "traveling at an unsafe speed" and crashed into the rear of the rig, CHP Officer Mike Radford said. 4 comments
