    Hagerstown, Ind., died on Friday, January 16, at Stonebrooke in New Castle, Ind. She was born July 5, 1925, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to Rachel (Gourd) and John M. Williams. She was the eldest of four daughters born to the Williams family. She graduated from Newton High School, Newtonville, Mass., at age 16, and then went on to graduate from Boston University with bachelor's and master's degrees in English, education and library science. She worked at Bowling Green University in Ohio, and also taught in Florence, Arizona and 29 Palms, California. After retiring, she lived in Camp, Ark.; Delta, Ohio; Anderson, Ind.; and finally Hagerstown, Ind. She had five children: the late Emily Kuntz (Rod) Delta, Ohio; Chuck Thompson (Laura) of Fishers; Don Thompson (Pamela) of Pittsburg, Kansas; Martha Bowman (Bennie) of Hagerstown; and Dr. John Thompson (Debbie) of Pittsburg, Kansas. She had 16 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She also had many nieces and nephews. She had one surviving sister, Florence "Nicky" Rachel of Hobbs, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Ruth "Whiss" Patuto and Alice Batts, her husband, Donald Thompson, and her daughter, Emily Kuntz. She donated her body to science, specifically at the IU School of Medicine. A memorial service/celebration of life will be Friday, February 6, 2015, at the Nettle Creek Church of the Brethren, 5352 N. Brick Church Road, Hagerstown, officiated by Rev. Harley Schultz. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., with the service at 6. Memorial contributions can be made to The Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana.
