    The criminal proceedings against a 52-year-old Kent County woman in the 2007 death of Janna Kelly will be held in Grand Rapids. Robin Root was apprehended and arraigned three weeks ago on open murder charges, as detectives claimed that she admitted killing the 60-year-old realtor in a landlord-tenant dispute and dumping her body in a field south of Grand Haven three months after Kelly was reported missing.

Cold Case investigators have been working since last June on the death of the 60-year-old Grand Rapids insurance agent who disappeared in December of 2007 and whose body was found in a wooded area off of 160th Avenue and Pierce Street, south of Grand Haven, three months later.

    A two vehicle crash on I-196 Saturday morning landed one driver in jail and his passenger in the hospital. Jose Garcia-Perez, 47, of Comstock Park was not injured in the crash and was driving west on I-196 east of Byron Road in Zeeland Township when he was rear-ended by a second vehicle which forced him into a ditch.

The family of Timothy Groenhout claimed on social media that his body was found along the Grand River in Grand Rapids by a bottle and can collector, although Grand Rapids police have not officially confirmed the identity of the body that was found on Saturday.

    A 22-year-old Jenison man was sentenced to probation and community service following a fatal crash last fall in suburban Grand Rapids. Max Jurewicz didn't contest misdemeanor charges stemming from the September 13 Street at Burlingame Avenue and slammed into a car, killing its driver, 19-year-old Christian Goudy of Wyoming, and injuring his 18-year-old passenger.

Emilie Bushman did not receive injuries but her passenger Hailey Cearlock 16 of Grand Rapids who was sitting in the rear seat, received non life threatening injuries and was transported to Devos Children's Hospital.
