Area officials, including Lakeshore Advantage President Jennifer Owens, Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce President Jane Clark and Ottawa County Administrator Al Vanderberg, will attend a Michigan Senate Economic Development Committee hearing on Wednesday.

According to Ottawa County Sheriff's Detective Captain Mark Bennett, a 22-year-old woman and her boyfriend were visiting the suspect's residence on Renwood Drive, off of Beeline Road near James Street, around 3:45 AM when the suspect pulled out a gun and demanded money. 1 comment

The driver, Elizabeth Finzel, claimed that a blue van cut her off on westbound I-96 before the 112th Avenue overpass, causing her to eventually lose control of her vehicle.

According to Ottawa County Sheriff's Sergeant John Wolffis, 68-year-old Dennis Hoag of Wyoming was driving his car eastbound on Taft Street around 5:45 AM, while 45-year-old Shane Plowman of Fruitport was southbound on 168th Avenue.

    According to Ottawa County Sheriff's Sergeant Matt Wildfong, deputies were alerted to the situation around 1:15 AM when callers told dispatchers that a white van was weaving across the lanes and onto the shoulders, beginning around the 19 mile marker. The driver apparently ignored flashing lights behind him, and around the seven mile marker, the van started slowing down from perhaps a blown engine.

    Police have identified the victims of a wrong-way, head-on crash on I-96 that killed one woman and critically injured the three others on Friday. 81-year-old Donna Laymon of Grand Rapids was pronounced dead at the scene, while her husband, 83 year old Leslie Laymon, who was driving the car is in critical condition at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital.
