    The Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled Thursday that a $43 million Sibley East Public School referendum vote on Nov. 4, 2014 will stand. Thursday's ruling was expedited, coming a day after three justices heard arguments Wednesday from attorneys representing the school district and those that opposed the outcome of the referendum vote, a group led by Gaylord farmer Nathan Kranz.

    Judge Kevin W. Eide ruled in favor of Sibley East Public Schools Tuesday in the case contesting the district's $43 million building bond vote on Nov. 4, 2014. Sibley East voters approved the bonding in a vote for a new elementary school in Gaylord plus remodeling and an addition to the Arlington school by a vote of 1,634 to 1,538.

    A judge took a lawsuit to invalidate a $43 million bonding referendum approved by Sibley East School District voters Nov. 4 under advisement after a one-day court trial Tuesday in Sibley County District Court. Nathan Kranz of Gaylord filed suit Nov. 13 against Sibley East Public School and Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, claiming the school district missed mandatory public notice deadlines and that the election, approved by a vote of 1,634 to 1,538, should be invalid.

    Kelly Pierson was elected mayor Tuesday, receiving 311 votes to 182 votes for incumbent David Trebelhorn. Voters elected Robert Riekheim, incumbent Lyle Muth and Dale Malheim to the city council with 282, 245 and 177 votes respectively.
