    The Humboldt County Coroner's Office along with the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office and the Southern Humboldt Tactical Rescue Team recovered the body from the aircraft that crashed in the South Fork of the Eel River on Sprowel Creek Road in Garberville on Friday afternoon. The pilot and sole occupant of the plane was identified as 59-year-old Dr. Douglas Todd Pleatman.

The chief emergency room doctor at Jerold Phelps Community Hospital was killed Friday when his single-engine plane crashed into the South Fork of the Eel River near Garberville a little after 10 a.m., officials said.
