    Garberville >> With temperatures dropping below freezing on Tuesday, Dec. 30 and Wednesday, Dec. 31, an extreme weather shelter was opened at the Veterans' Hall in Garberville. Kathy Epling and Paul Encimer said afterward that about 30 people came to get warm, visit, eat food donated by the community, and have respite from the extreme weather conditions.

They heard a report from district general manager Ralph Emerson about his research on the impact and possibility of accepting Gyppo Ale Mill brewery industrial wastewater if the Redway Community Services District , where the brewery is proposed to be located, will provide the brewery and restaurant with water. Emerson said that RCSD initially denied the brewery the right to discharge industrial wastewater into their system.

    In Willow Creek 149 customers lost power at 1:23 p.m. and it hasn't been restored yet, according to the site, joining 309 customers in the Honeydew community, northwest of Garberville, which lost power at 7:45 a.m. Power is expected to be restored in Honeydew by 6 p.m. tonight, and it's currently unknown when it will be back on in Willow Creek and Garberville. PG&E crews have been assigned to assess the outages and what caused them, according to the site.
