    A spokesperson for Galax Police Chief Rick Clark advised that Earl Wayne Edwards, Jr., 37, of Laurel Fork, has been arrested and charged in connection with a burglary that was reported on April 26. Galax police responded to Ward's Auto and U-Haul Rental located on Jefferson Street, where the owner reported that someone had broken into the business. The victims discovered a 2007 Ford Truck had been stolen after the suspect allegedly obtained the keys during the burglary.

    Carroll County and the Town of Hillsville have agreed in principle to work on a solution to help keep Hillsville's sewer rates down. At the Carroll County Public Service Authority's April 13 meeting, the PSA agreed to allow Hillsville to pay for a Preliminary Engineering Report to study the possibility of having wastewater from Fancy Gap sent to Hillsville to increase the town's flows and capacities, which would in turn help lower sewer rates.

    In order to for the Town of Hillsville to be complaint with a state sewer loan and to be grant-eligible for federal and state funds for water projects, the town will have to increase utility rates significantly by the year 2019. During its April 13 meeting, Hillsville Town Council was told sewer rates must increase 21.5 percent by 2019 to be complaint with state regulations, while water rates will need to nearly double in order for the town to be grant eligible.
