Our unseasonably pleasant spring weather this year is a lovely start to the Zilker Hillside Theater season and a compelling reason to bring out the picnic blankets and coolers for Austin Shakespeare's production of "The Taming of the Shrew," running through May 24. One of Shakespeare's most popular comedies, "Taming" has inspired plenty of re-tellings over the years: from "Kiss Me Kate" to "10 Things I Hate About You," we've watched countless men conspire to marry off a shrewish elder sister so that others may woo her demure younger sibling. Allen, who was the longtime host of "Lone Star State of Mind" on 93.3 KGSR-FM, can now be heard on Sun Radio, which broadcasts on four Central Texas frequencies: 100.1 FM in Austin, 103.1 FM in Dripping Springs, 99.1 FM in Fredericksburg and 88.9 FM in Johnson City. "We're pleased that Roger Allen has agreed to join the Sun Radio family as our new afternoon DJ," Sun Radio program director Denver O'Neal said. Comment?
When he goes on tour soon to promote his new bluegrass album, "Happy Prisoner," he might make mention of the beer he helped to launch last year with Pedernales Brewing in Fredericksburg. And if any of the stops on the tour are within the brewery's distribution reach, Pedernales' president Lee Hereford said, Keen's fans will be able to try the beer while the musician, onstage, makes his live foray into bluegrass.
