    Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens reported this week that a 28-year-old Emmetsburg man has been arrested as the result of a multi-jurisdictional investigation into the theft of farm machinery in Emmet County. Ryan John VanGorp of Emmetsburg is accused of stealing nine pieces of farm machinery in rural Emmet County from March 2013 to November 2014 and one grain wagon stolen from an Estherville business as reported to the Estherville Police Department in December 2013.

    The Emmet County Board of Supervisors Tuesday agreed to abate $225 in past due mobile home taxes on an abandoned property. Monte Burrell of Green Acres Mobile Homes requested the abatement which represented a year and a half of past-due taxes left by the previous owner of an abandoned mobile home.

    Estherville businessman Roy Gage Tuesday voiced his objection to the Emmet County Board of Supervisors to odors Gage said came from the Iowa Protein Solutions rendering plant south of Estherville. Gage said at 4:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 he detected a strong odor from the rendering plant at his shop at 1609 Central Ave. and called Iowa Protein Solutions but received no answer.
