    An East Palo Alto man who stabbed his girlfriend and slit her throat in a jealous rage was convicted of murder this week, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office. The jury deliberated for a little more than an hour Thursday before finding Richard Slaughter, 49, guilty of five felony counts -- first degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, drunken driving causing injury and driving with more than an .08 percent blood-alcohol level causing injury, according to the district attorney's office.

    A Redwood City jury found an East Palo Alto man guilty of first-degree murder Thursday for cutting his girlfriend's throat last year in a fit of misguided jealousy. Richard Earl Slaughter, 49, had been living with Philomena Ashford-Anderson, 47, for seven months in an apartment building at 45 Newell Road in East Palo Alto when he stabbed her and cut her throat in August of 2013, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

    A drunken driving suspect who revealed to police that they would find a body at an East Palo Alto apartment has been convicted of murdering his girlfriend, authorities said. Richard Slaughter , 49, was found guilty Thursday by a San Mateo County Superior Court jury of first-degree murder, gun violations, drunken driving and a weapons enhancement in connection with the fatal stabbing of Philomena Ashford-Anderson , 47. He is to be sentenced Nov. 18. Slaughter slashed and stabbed Ashford-Anderson and cut her throat at her apartment on Newell Road in a fit of jealousy, and then began drinking from a bottle of hard liquor before driving off with the victim's gun, which she carried for protection, authorities said.
