    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. >> Matthew Pena, 29, of Deming, was sentenced Tuesday morning in federal court in Las Cruces to 10 years in prison followed by four years of supervised release for his methamphetamine trafficking conviction. Pena was arrested on Jan. 27, 2014, in Deming on a two-count indictment charging him and co-defendants Rebecca Torres, 41, Anthony Perez, 40, both of Deming, and Robert Snow, now deceased, with distributing methamphetamine.

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. >> A federal jury in Las Cruces returned a guilty verdict Friday, finding Jessie Hopper Sr., 54, and Polly Hopper, 61, of Deming, guilty on kidnapping and firearms charges after a five-day trial. The verdict was announced by U.S. Attorney Damon P. Martinez, Special Agent Carol K.O. Lee of the Albuquerque Division of the FBI, Special Agent in Charge Thomas G. Atteberry of the Phoenix Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, New Mexico State Police Chief Pete Kassetas and Luna County Sheriff Jonathan Mooradian.
