Seven defendants including three San Mateo County sheriff's employees accused of a conspiracy to smuggle cellphones and drugs into county jail appeared in court together for the first time today, prosecutors said. Four of them entered not guilty pleas today and all seven have now pleaded not guilty to numerous felony charges. Comment?
Prosecutors will seek to revoke bail this morning for a Hells Angels member accused of conspiring with sheriff's employees to smuggle Dionicio Lopez Jr., 26, was out on $1 million bail and awaiting trial for allegedly shooting at a Daly City home in 2011 when he was re-arrested for the alleged conspiracy and his bail was increased to $2 million. He remains in custody, but prosecutors now hope to have bail revoked altogether. Comment?
The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to change the definition of "smoking" and "tobacco product" to include electronic smoking devices. The board also voted 4-1 to approve an ordinance prohibiting smoking of all types in and around multi-unit residences, which include owner-occupied condominiums and townhouses. Comment?
Motorcycle officers from around San Mateo County spent Wednesday patrolling parts of Menlo Park and Atherton and issued 252 citations, most for speeding and cell phone violations.
