    The $97.5 million settlement against the town of Cottageville over an officer who fatally shot a former mayor has been reduced to $10 million, and the town won't have to pay any of it, according to a settlement reached last week. The settlement on behalf of the family of former Mayor Bert Reeves was filed March 3 in U.S. Circuit Court in Charleston.

A search warrant was executed at 859 Vandyke Road in Cottageville in reference to a complaint that the homeowner was a convicted felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, according to a police report released Thursday. The search resulted in the seizure of multiple firearms, a large amount of ammunition, firearm parts and bomb-making materials, the report states.

In a wrongful death suit filed Colleton County in September 2012 and later removed to the federal court, the family of Mayor Carl Reeves claimed the officer, Randall Price, who has never been charged with the death, had a history of employing "forceful and abusive police tactics" that got him booted off at least three other police departments.
