About 25 residents spoke out in opposition to the proposal, which would close the road just north of Old Church Rd. Commissioner Todd Abbott suggested the closing, stating the road's hills pose a threat to public safety due to poor visibility of oncoming traffic. At least two fatalities have been reported on the road in recent years, with the last claiming the life of a Chipley woman who was traveling northbound on Falling Waters Road in January 2013 when she approached the hilltop, about 1.5 miles south of County Road 77A.
