Bariatric Medicine: Part 1 At 535 pounds, Rex Adams felt like a prisoner, not just because of his weight, but because he was taking as many as a dozen pills a day to help manage complications of obesity. “When I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and had to go on oral medication, that’s when it really hit me,” Adams says. “I had done this to myself. I knew I had to do something to lose the weight and free myself from all the pills I was taking.” Adams sought a surgical solution – a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass – to control the weight and his blood sugar. He took one last pill the day before the surgery. Since then, he hasn’t required any medication to manage type 2 diabetes. Children's Memorial Hermann and Women's Memorial Hermann are getting a new home!
Join us for a day of fun children’s activities and attractions at Memorial City Mall in our children’s village. Professional Lego artists will display their Lego creations, as well as a replica of the new Memorial Hermann Tower, new home to Children's Memorial Hermann and Women's Memorial Hermann! Kids will have an opportunity to build their own creations from Lego-style-bricks. We will be hosting a Memorial Hermann Tower building contest, where kids can build their own version of the new tower. Photos of the creations will be displayed on Flickr.com, where friends and family can vote for the best replica. Parents will get a chance to visit with medical experts from Children’s Memorial Hermann Memorial City at our “Ask the Pediatrician” and our “Ask the Ob/Gyn” tables.
