    Oak Lawn police announced on Wednesday that they have made several arrests in connection with vehicle burglaries this month, and they also have issued a community alert regarding several recent home burglaries that occurred mostly during daytime hours. Charged with vehicle burglary are Jackson Cantu, 18, of the 5100 block of 87th Street, Burbank; Christian Torres, 20, of the 5300 block of South Rockwell Street, Chicago; and Taylor Ramirez, 18, of the 10000 block of Mulberry Avenue, Oak Lawn.

    Commuters at the Patriot Station in downtown Oak Lawn were not enthused Thursday regarding Metra's announcement of a 68 percent increase in fares over the next 10 years, including a 10.8 percent that kicks in Feb. 1. The fare hike is needed to fund a $2.4 billion modernization plan, Metra said, but it cautioned that new rail cars may not been seen for up to three years. Waiting for the 3:10 p.m. train to Union Station on the SouthWest Service Line, Ron Volpi, 28, said he relies on Metra to get to and from his job downtown as a bartender.
