After placing second in the Maine Class A State Wrestling Championships a few weeks earlier, Eldredge followed up with an outstanding performance at the New England Interscholastic Wrestling Championships held in North Andover, Massachusetts, a week ago, winning two matches in the 170-pound bracket, both by pins.

Samya Santigue was second in scoring with 28 points, followed by Sara Boissonneault with 19, Kaylee Frey with 17. Also scoring in double figures were Hope Tarbox with 14 and Madison McCannon with 10. The season opened with a 28-10 win over Massabesic, with Hope Tarbox taking scoring honors with eight points.

To honor that connection to the Goodall family and the hospital's history, the new SMHC board of trustees added the Goodall name to the medical office building and pledged to create a historical display in the building to acknowledge the family and the hospital's importance to the community.

The New England Championships will be held at North Andover, Massachusetts, on March 6 and 7. Massabesic High School wrestlers who will compete at the meet are Leo Amabile , Zac Richard and Mike Risti . Noble High School wrestlers heading to the New Englands are Austin Shorey and Otto Keisker .

    Sanford High junior Peter Hegarty captured the gold medal in the pole vault at the Maine State Class A indoor track championships held at the USM campus on Saturday, Feb. 21. Fellow Spartan Peyton Wiegand, a senior, placed third in the 55 meter race. In team competition, Noble High School placed 12th with 17 points, and Sanford placed 13th with 16 points to tie with Bangor.

    Sanford High School senior Chase Eldredge and freshman Sam Anderson each placed second in their respective weight classes at the Western Maine Class A Regionals at Marshwood High School on Saturday, Feb. 7. Eldredge finished second in the 170-pound class, and Anderson took second in the 160-pound class. Also placing for the Spartans were Mike Hurst, who finished third in the 195-pound division, and Travis Dionne, who finished fourth in the 120-pound class.

    The Spartan girls' defense held the Biddeford Tigers to single digits over the last three quarters of basketball on the way to Sanford High School's one-sided 61-35 victory at the Memorial Gym on Friday. The teams battled on fairly even terms in the first quarter, as the Spartans took a 16-13 lead.
