    The search for a missing University of Washington student from Bellevue ended tragically over the weekend when his body was found in the Montlake Cut area south of the Seattle campus, according to the Seattle Police Department. The family of 20-year-old Tan Nguyen filed a missing persons report on Feb. 11. A woman found Nguyen's student ID, a cryptic poem and a dollar bill in a plastic bag hanging from a metal chain on a park bench on the south side of the Montlake Cut on Feb. 13, according to a Seattle Police report.

    The proposal to toll Interstate 405 from Bellevue to Lynnwood received less than an enthused response at a public meeting held at Kirkland City Hall Feb. 19. A presentation by Tolling Division Assistant Secretary Craig Stone to the State Transportation Commission at the beginning of the meeting intended to relieve some concerns about the proposal, as well as explain the necessity for it on a highway which Stone said is among the worst, if not the worst, in the state when it comes to traffic congestion. Traffic is so bad, he said, the high-occupancy vehicle lane is not meeting state and federal requirements for vehicles to be traveling at 40 miles per hour 90 percent of the time.

Sen. John Braun, R-Centralia, is sponsoring Senate Bill 5955, which would pull the states 75-percent portion of training costs for law enforcement cadets to the Criminal Justice Training Commission.

    As a Bellevue motorist, I'd like to comment on last week's report on the Northeast 116th Avenue overlay project. The only voices against the plan were two pensioners living in the Aegis facility close by and a property owner whose concern is that the bike lanes end before the intersection - the same concern that the people who ride bikes down that road have.
