    A woman wanted in connection to an alleged stabbing on Sunday in Haywood County has turned herself in to authorities. Jamie Sutton, 36, has been charged with felonious assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury after turning herself in to the Haywood County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday evening.

    Four women have been charged with felony assault and another suspect is being sought in connection to an alleged stabbing on Sunday. According to the Haywood County Sheriff's Office, investigators are still searching for 36-year-old Jamie Marie Long Sutton, of Bryson City, for her alleged involvement with an assault that occurred shortly before 2 p.m on Sunday.

    Every spring and fall, Haywood County Animal Services, the Haywood County Health Human Services Agency and veterinarians from several animal hospitals around the county collaborate on a series of Rabies Clinics to encourage citizens to get their pets vaccinated. According to North Carolina law, in order for a rabies vaccine to be current, all dogs, cats and ferrets ages 4 months old and older must be vaccinated against rabies.

    In response to the article in last Wednesday's paper regarding Canton's Labor Day Festival plans, at an open meeting with the aldermen, I have to admit that I was appalled at the remark by Mr. Taylor, resident, as well as a remark by Alderwoman Edwards regarding "downtown Canton" and which park to use - the smaller one next to "downtown" Canton and/or the larger one out by the pool and near our high school. If my own small business was in that "downtown" area, I'd be livid at the remarks made.

The brewery at 357 Dayton Drive in Waynesville, which also recently opened, opened a taproom at 50 N. Main St. in Waynesville. Folks enjoyed a full menu, several Boojum beers as well as regional beers.

    During a special-called meeting on Monday, Feb. 23, the mayor and board of aldermen passed a motion to put in place a plan that will introduce a series of free downtown concerts featuring local and regional artists at a low- to -moderate price range as well as using both Sorrells Street Park and the town recreation park, where the celebration has traditionally taken place. The town had looked into options of bringing a nationally known headlining artist to town for a major concert at Pisgah Stadium on the Sunday night before Labor Day but scrapped its plans after learning the school took issue of having a large stage built on the turf and concerns over the cost of the artist and stage.
