    Waynesville's fourth microbrewery, Boojum Brewing Company, opened its taproom doors on Saturday, Feb. 21. The brewery at 357 Dayton Drive in Waynesville, which also recently opened, opened a taproom at 50 N. Main St. in Waynesville. Folks enjoyed a full menu, several Boojum beers as well as regional beers.

    During a special-called meeting on Monday, Feb. 23, the mayor and board of aldermen passed a motion to put in place a plan that will introduce a series of free downtown concerts featuring local and regional artists at a low- to -moderate price range as well as using both Sorrells Street Park and the town recreation park, where the celebration has traditionally taken place. The town had looked into options of bringing a nationally known headlining artist to town for a major concert at Pisgah Stadium on the Sunday night before Labor Day but scrapped its plans after learning the school took issue of having a large stage built on the turf and concerns over the cost of the artist and stage.
