The passage of time takes a toll on dogs - the hips become a bit weaker, the legs become a tad more wobbly, and the joints often stiffen from arthritis.

    Surprise was found wandering as a stray; it's rather difficult, however to imagine she has been on her own much, since the staff and volunteers at the Baldwin Park Shelter report her to be several pounds overweight. This very adoptable dog, perhaps with special needs because her eyesight seems impaired or non-existence, but that certainly hasn't stopped the eight-year-old from wagging her tail and still enjoying life despite her serious predicament in a very busy shelter where dogs are euthanized to make room for other cases.
