    In memory of two longtime Eel River Valley timber industry representatives, a custom redwood bench has been installed just outside the Pro Shop of the Redwood Empire Golf & Country Club in Fortuna. The bench includes plaques dedicated to John Campbell, long-time president of The Pacific Lumber Company in Scotia, who passed away in October 2008 at the age of 67, and Eddie Mendes, who had a 27-year career with Barnum Timber, and passed away in August 2008 at the age of 60. Family and friends donated to help make the project possible, and the bench was designed and built by Sean Thompson of Plumb Construction in Fortuna.
