    Despite not getting approval from the North Coast Section, as well as the Central Coast Section and the powerful Southern Section, the California Interscholastic Federation got the votes it needed Friday to expand its state football regionals from five to 13 divisions. The expansion became official at the Doubletree Hotel in San Jose when the CIF's Federated Council voted 71-64 in favor of the much-publicized proposal.

After a monthlong investigation, CCS Commissioner Nancy Lazenby Blaser spelled out the penalties for Serra on Thursday, the worst being a two-year ban from the playoffs for the football program, along with an additional year of probation.
