They were, but the Toyota Prius quickly become the predominant hybrid in the U.S. Now Honda has redesigned the Insight for 2010 and lowered the price "to bring the advantages of a hybrid powertrain to a new, less-affluent set of buyers." The redesigned 2010 Honda Insight gas/electric hybrid features a 1.3-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine and a 10-kilowatt electric motor which creates a reasonably simple but still effective hybrid drive system.
