Seven U.S. senators are asking the federal Office of Management and Budget to quickly finalize new comprehensive standards for rail tanker cars that carry vast amounts of crude oil across America, Sen. Charles Schumer said on Thursday. Last year, the federal Department of Transportation released proposed regulations to be reviewed and finalized by OMB, including reduced train speeds, tougher tank car design standards, enhanced communication with local emergency workers, and the phasing out aging DOT-111 tank cars from carrying the most volatile type of crude within two years.
