Yoko Ono is a musician and performance-art pioneer. For her new album, Between My Head and the Sky, she has created a 21st-century version of the Plastic Ono Band, the group that she and John Lennon founded in 1969.
Yoko Ono was exposed to music early in her life and started performing at "happenings" of various avant-garde kinds in the '50s. She was an early follower of John Cage, figured into the post-Dada '60s art movement known as Fluxus, and started a fruitful relationship with John Lennon after meeting him at a gallery in London in 1966.
