Showtime's original series slate is certainly shaping up nicely. The network has recently made an effort to land film stars to head their most recent series - including William H. Macy in Shameless , Claire Danes in Homeland and Don Cheadle in House of Lies - and, with these speedy renewals , it's a strategy that seems to be working out quite well.

The premium network ordered a second season of House of Lies , starring Don Cheadle as Marty Kaan, who is leading a band of consultants looking to play corporations, for a second season, and picked up third and sixth campaigns of Shameless and Californication .

New Don Cheadle comedy House of Lies , saw its audience grow by 41 percent compared to last week's episodes with 1.02 million viewers to its 10 p.m. airing and 1.35 million total viewers for the night.

Comedy thrives on the unexpected, those times when every day life collides with sudden change.

"It's incredibly frustrating for Lip because he's done so much for the family, and the first time that he asks for any help in return, the family comes up somewhat empty-handed," White told HuffPost TV in December .
