Hynde is the sole original member of the pretenders because she fired all the other members and brought in low paid replacements.
Chrissie may be for the ethical treatment of animals but in her world that ethical treatment is not extended to her bandmates.
It's important that we not confuse the ability to sing a catchy tune with true artistic integrety.
Are we paying attention Lost Boys?

That wasn't the Pretenders. That was Chrissie Hynde's solo project with an old name. That would be like Robert Plant grabbing three other guys and calling it Led Zeppelin.

James Brown fired his band the night OF a concert. Replaced 'em with a bunch of kids. Anyone care to - w/o looking - name another Pretender, that's still alive that might be able to claim the name? How about one the Crickets? And Plant doesn't PLAY, Chrissy does, he was added to LZ, Chrissy was / is The Pretenders. It's her band, check the Wiki.

While you're there, note she was AT Kent State,(duh, so?). For those that haven't forgotten, does that give you some clues?

PS, Ms Humbolt. I've been known to be gullible, but you said you were 4 months away from a degree in Journalism. I did not read your comment as sour grapes. It's also tougher than you might think, reread some of the comments. Good luck.

Chester:

What is it with you that the majority of your chosen screen names have to do with homosexuality, fellatio, and women? We all know the reason; do you?

Did I hurt your feelings yet again with my cold, cold words, Princess? For someone who flings feces, profanity, and insults as often as you, you sure seem to cry like a b1tch whenever someone flings it back.

We know you are gay - we do not care. We know you are a child molester - that, we care very much about. Here's the deal: Keep your distance and keep your fingers.

Chester:

Keep whining to the Higher Ups; it won't change a thing.

Come out of the closet, already. Your sexual orientation is none of our business.

Leave the children alone, Princess. Your molestation is very much the business of the entire community ... and we will put a stop to it.

Coward.

Ms. Humboldt,
Good luck on your possible career with the Times Standard. I am sure it will prove to be very lucrative for you. It's time for you to back off.

The Times Standard? Are you serious? I'm not closed minded enough to think that print journalism has a future. I'm more geared towards MULTI MEDIA and would never want to be employed as a print journalist.

How can you back off the internet? All of us are wasting our time posting on here and wasting our time reading insults on here. Lets all find something better to do, like watch television and shop at walmart.

I have been a Pretenders fan for a looooong time. Since I saw them in 1983 actually as the opening act for the Clash. They were great. I do have to backtrack a little with saying that the addition of Jim Keltner on drums lends a little more legitimacy to their current lineup. Chrissie is one of the most charasmatic singers in all of rock history. But, I disagree with your assumption that a singer does not play. Robert Plant, Jello Biafra, King Diamond, Bruce Dickinson, Steven Tyler, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, etc, etc, all have a voice that is as skilled in it's usage as any instrument and just as important to the collective sound of the band. I disagree with her politics in general but have always respected her approach to music.

I can't resist. Chrissy went to high school the same time as I did, just in a different (but football rival) High School. We all hung out in Kent (the place Joe Walsh cut his teeth - great seedy dives, 25cent cover charge and no photo IDs), home of Kent State was a better school for higher education and in a much better hood than Akron U. Case Western hoods way to hoity toity.

She was an opportunist then and still is. Looks like it's working for her so go for it sister. DEVO was from the same area - much different era.

Yes Troy, there are plenty of singer musicians, Plant premier among them (anyone notice Kenny Rankin just died?) and BTW your list is glaring in in it's exceptions of Mick and Daltry, but Jello makes up for it. But there's a special place in my heart for those that sing / write / play. I also thought it ironic CH is getting reamed for "dumping" dysfunctional and / or deceased ex-band mates. Nice call on Keltner - though he'll work with just about anybody, at least all the musicians other musicians dream about - he drummed on her latest release.

Donna
Did you see the Drew Carey "Drewstock" episode where Little Richard, Joe Walsh and I don't know who all of Ohio's alums showed up? Good stuff, CH missed out.

You bet on the Drew Carey - I always got such a kick outta that show (especially his original opening song "Moon over Parma guide my love to me to night; guide her to Cleveland underneath your silvery light. We're going bowlin' so don't loser her in Solan, Moon over Parma tonite" Never would have been CH's fare ;-)

But the Presidents... Cleveland Rocks was fun too.

Daily Horoscope for December 10

Aries

One of the family needs plenty of love and attention today, but the trouble is that you may not be able to spare the time. If so, you'll be consumed with guilt and self-reproach, and this may become so strong that it casts a blight over the day. So do what you can to let them know you're thinking about them, but resist the temptation to berate yourself over things you can't change.
