John Lennon's Liverpool-bought guitar sells for twice its estimate at a pop auction in London
ONE of John Lennon’s earliest guitars sold for more than £205,000 at a pop memorabilia auction.
The murdered Beatle continued to thwart 1960s rock rivals The Rolling Stones nearly 30 years after his death,
His 1958 acoustic Hofner Senator outsold Brian Jones’ electric Stratophone, which went for a paltry £79,250, and guitar hero Jimi Hendrix, whose 1970 Fender Stratocaster was also up for sale.
Lennon’s guitar, bought at Hessy’s Music store in Liverpool, was used to compose songs rather than play at gigs.
An accompanying letter from Beatles bandmate George Harrison confirmed it was one of Lennon’s earliest guitars, dating from the early 1960s.

Beatles fan restores Liverpool grave of original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe
THE grave of an original member of The Beatles was restored by a keen fan after years of neglect.
The headstone of Stuart Sutcliffe, who was the band’s bassist in the early 1960s, was almost toppled over in a Huyton cemetery.
But a big Beatles fan who made it his mission to restore famous landmarks of the Fab Four has restored the fallen granite grave and repainted its gold lettering.
Less than two months after he painted the gates of the former Strawberry Field children’s home in its original pillar box red, Colin Unwin cleared and tidied the plot.
The 61-year-old said: “After the sad tale of Strawberry Field, I wanted to tidy up Stuart’s grave. He was the forgotten Beatle and contributed so much to the band in its founder years.

CasiNotes: The art of classic rock, on walls, in halls
According to creator-producer Scott Segelbaum, of Blue Bell, the art show features some 200 pieces. They include original artwork by John Lennon, Ringo Starr and the Rolling Stones' Ron Wood; photographs of superstars; and memorabilia like vintage concert posters, gold records and handwritten lyrics.
There will be appearances by Ron Campbell, director of the legendary Saturday morning cartoon series "The Beatles," which aired on ABC from 1965 through '69, and veteran concert-poster designer Scotty C.

Author: Beatles should release Saturday cartoon series, music videos on DVD
One of the items on Beatle fans' wish list for release is "The Beatles" animated cartoon series, which ran from 1965-69 on Saturday morning TV. But even though Apple has had the rights to it for several years, their use of it has remained fairly dormant, with the exception of some licensed items using the cartoon images.
Mitch Axelrod, author of "Beatletoons, The Real Story Behind The Cartoon Beatles," a book detailing the history and creation of the series, says it's too bad the series hasn't been released on DVD because people forget how popular the cartoons actually were when they were first broadcast.

Rumor resurfaces: Now and Then ready to be released
Rumors are again starting to mount about the third "lost" Beatles track, called "Now And Then," the unreleased composition recorded by John Lennon in 1978, and was mentioned as a possible third new Beatles song around the time of Anthology in 1995.
An anonymous inside source tells Beatles News, "Its confirmed very high up. There is no doubt, none.
The Beatles song "Now And Then" is finished. All four Beatles are on the track. The original Beatles reunion version from 1995 was embellished with numerous additional sessions over the last two years by Paul McCartney. Paul wants it out badly, according to high placed sources. It is said the song sounds very Beatley."

The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl
A ticket to ride, $5 to see the Beatles, not bad. I have no idea why, but "The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl" has never been released on CD in the U.S. Worse yet, I don't think it's going to come out on CD or download when the remastered Beatles albums are released later this year.
