MOPDTK is one of my favorite groups, they are filled with enthusiasm for the music of the past and the future, as can be seen by the good natured re-staging of the album photograph for the classic Roy Haynes LP Out of the Afternoon .

Two concerts, a CD and book prove that Jazz is Alive and Well

After seeing bandleaders/drummers Roy Haynes and Dafnis Prieto live, listening to bandleader/trumpeter Roy Hargrove's new big-band CD, Emergence , and reading Amiri Baraka's new book, Digging , during the last few weeks, it's hard to believe the notion that jazz is dead.
