Those who died at Gettysburg gave their lives so all could speak and have their voices heard. FYI, this gentleman gave a wonderful narration to the old Cyclorama presentation and many people found it moving. I am sure that many people are looking forward to this and will enjoy this. I wish I could attend. Who are you to judge who loves this country? |

Liberal means UNAmerican? Oh please. I love this country with all my heart and I want to see it flourish, not fail. He is a preservationist so why can't we keep the politics out of it? Go ahead & rip me apart, I'm a tough old vet!
"WASHINGTON (AP)— Oscar-winner Richard Dreyfuss visited the nation's capital on Wednesday to call attention to the most endangered Civil War battlefields. The actor joined the Civil War Preservation Trust as the group released its annual report on 10 battlefields that it says are deteriorating due to neglect, land development and other threats. At a news conference, Dreyfuss said his interest in preserving Civil War battlefields grew out of his love for history and the significance of the war. The Washington-based preservation group issues the "History Under Siege" report annually. The sites on this year's list include Gettysburg, Pa.; South Mountain and Monocacy in Maryland; Cedar Creek, New Market Heights, and Wilderness in Virginia; Fort Gaines, Ala.; Port Gibson, Miss.; Sabine Pass, Texas; and Spring Hill, Tenn." |

If the man can use his reputation to get other people to pay attention to the needs of the run down battlefields, then more power to him. If it were not for people like RD who care, I gaurantee you that houses, gas stations, restaurants, hotels, blacktop, and concrete, would replace all of the trees, memorials, and grave sites. Do you honestly think the feds give a crap about the battlefields much less a dime. The battlefields will eventually be the only natural setting left to enjoy. Just look how quickly all of the farms are being subdivided. I for one hope the national parks last forever.

Bravo. I am sick to death of being told I'm not a good American or I'm Godless because I disagree with these people. Well said. |
