I'll be honest. I wasn't aware of photographer John Scarpati, the subject of the story I wrote for this week's Scene , until I got an email about his show at Bongo East.

There were many reasons the excellent pop-rock group Redd Kross dissipated after the tour for its 1997 album, "Show World." A drummer left, and guitarist Eddie Kurdziel died of a drug overdose in 1999.

After a full fifteen-year silence between their last studio album, Show World , and last year's excellent Researching the Blues , Redd Kross' poppy brand of hardcore is as relevant as ever.
