The Uninvited is nothing if not proper as a ghost story. A curious Criterion Blu-ray release and a cheeky tie-in with the Halloween buying season this Lewis Allen melodrama from 1944 is enjoyable as a seventy-year-old movie liberated from the vault, but its level-headedness gives it a prissy feel that leaves it difficult to penetrate.
