I was going to do a year-end list for 2009 music releases, but whether because I'm getting old or because it was just that kind of year, there weren't any albums that I really liked.

U2 and Bruce Springsteen continue to create vital music, and both released some of the decade's greatest albums.

Small, non-mainstream acts and record labels have sought exposure for their music since the birth of rock `n' roll, pop and soul, but this decade saw indie artists finding powerful new vehicles to reach an audience that was growing more receptive.

Well, we made it. 2009 is practically in the books, and now it's time to look back on the rather, uh, zany year that was.
